Children"

Our Services Include:
Physical Therapy:
- Alignment -
a necessary prerequisite to achieving balanced muscle
control. Requires careful attention to joint structures,
muscle lengths and habitual postures. Allows the child to
enjoy adulthood as free of orthopedic problems as
possible.
- Mobility & Balance
- Essential for active
exploration of the world. Involves much more than just
walking. It is how a child gets from one place to
another-in and out of bed, up from the floor, into a car
and out into the community. Enables a child to call upon
a variety of movement patterns
to safely and efficiently meet situations like being
jostled in a crowd, slipping on the bathroom floor, or
even trying to dress independently.
- The Foot -
Our
vital support base against the ground. Immensely high in
tensile strength, yet surprisingly supple and flexible.
Becomes the first defense against uneven and slippery
terrain. Allows a child to fulfill his inborn desire to
be upright.
Occupational Therapy:
- The Sensory System
- Our window to the world. Becomes enhanced through
early exploration of the senses: touching and being
touched, smelling, tasting, hearing, seeing, feeling a
sense of balance and body position. Enables the child to
perfect such skills as eye-hand coordination and visual
perception-essentials for math, reading, and writing.
- The Hand -
Intricate
in structure, complicated in function. Depends on the
shoulder girdle as its stable base, its anchor. Functions
as our instrument of daily living in play, music, art,
work and school. allows a child to practice early
self-care, promoting his sense of responsibility for
other areas of life in the future.
- Play -
The job of a child, as he learns how
to learn. Fun-makes a child want
to practice new skills. Enables the child to master his
environment, and become a "doer" not a
"watcher". Allows the child to feel success and
strive to be independent in the world.
Speech and Language Therapy:
- Communication
- The most important psychological need. Can be done
with eyes, gestures, voice or even computers. Requires
concentration, whatever the method. Entails the ability
to receive information, make it meaningful and respond to
it.
- Feeding -
The
oral-motor precursor to speech. Involves ability to chew,
swallow and rink safely, without coughing, choking or
fatigue. Requires superb coordination between breathing
patterns and movements of the mouth and tongue. Becomes a
valuable social outlet for the child once successfully
achieved.
- Speech -
A
method of communication using the voice. Involves the
ability to sustain a long, effortless exhalation as the
words are spoken. Requires the fine muscles of the face,
tongue and jaw to move with absolute control. Should be
easily understood by all.
